                                                                Abstract

A statistical review of the website www.acls4you.com was performed using

Realtracker.  The data that was studied in particular was from the time of

January 1st, 2004 to June 30th, 2004.  This includes a five-point summary of

the data collected during that time, a bar graph of the data,  then a

contingency table comparison of two self test web pages.  It was desired

to look at if a relationship between the two exist in order to develop the

website.  The chi squared method was used to test the null hypothesis of

no relationship between the two pages.  It was found that the chi squared

value was 10.4, and the null hypothesis was rejected.  There was a

statistical relationship between these two self test pages; therefore, it

could be concluded that if one self test page is visited, the other one will be

as well and could be a justification to add more self test pages to the site.

Project for STAT 370: Statistical Review of www.acls4you.com

A website, www.acls4you.com, was reviewed to determine the statistical

relationship of two self test web pages.  It was desired to examine if a

relationship between the two exist in order to develop the website to help

health care providers that are involved with resuscitating a cardiac or

respiratory arrest or “death” pass the certification test according to the

American Heart Association’s guidelines called A.C.L.S. (Advanced Cardiac

Life Support).  In order to determine the relationship and how it was tested, a

description of the data gathered will follow.

The site, www.acls4you.com  was developed using Homestead as the IP

(Internet Provider) host address.  Homestead, www.homestead.com, used

Realtracker, www.realtracker.com, a free tracking system that tracks individual

IP addresses for websites and their individual pages.  The site showed

10,468 “hits” or visits from IP addresses from January 1st, 2002 to July 13th

2004 at 2pm.  Using Realtracker to break down the data, we saw that of the

total visits, 9,323 were unique IP addresses.  This was as close to an

individual we can get to not knowing how many computers, service providers,

or connections a person, household, or business might have.  The maximum

number of repeat visits were 15.  The minimum was 0, meaning that the

person or persons visited once, but did not return.  The maximum number of

pages visited by unique IP address was 64, the minimum was 1, and the

average was 8.

Of the 9323 unique IP addresses, 4259 visited 4 or more pages, 3,082

visited 3 pages, 1949 visited 2 pages, and 33 visited only 1 page.  General

data was available for the two and one half year period as follows: January to

December 2002, 1850 visits, 1482 were unique, meaning 368 IP addresses

                                                                                                                                                  4

came back to the site; January to December 2003, 5353 visits, 4624 were

unique, meaning 729 came back; and January to June 2004, 3265 visits,

3217 were unique, meaning 48 came back to the site.  One thousand forty five

IP addresses came back to the site in the last two and one half year period.

The only specific month by month data on specific information needed to

test the relationship between the two web pages could be gathered was since

January 2004, so the last full six months was used to determine how many

visits and unique IP addresses to

determine the individual pages

visited by unique IP addresses.

Unique IP addresses was

represented by purple, red

represented those that came

back, and gold represented

the percent that returned to the site.

July       651 unique IP add. 8 came back 1%

Of the 3,217 unique IP addresses, 48 came back to the site.  A five number

A two-way contingency table was constructed comparing the only two

web pages that contain a self test, which are key components for the actual

A.C.L.S. test, the Rhythm Test page and the Pre-Test page.  This way, one

can determine and test the relationship between the two if any exists.

The chi squared test was used to test the null hypothesis.  The null hypothesis

was that there is no relationship between unique IP addresses visiting both

pages.  The alternate hypothesis was that there is a statistical relationship

between visiting both pages.

(observed outcomes - the expected outcomes)

Chi squared is 10.4.   Because the chi squared > 3.84, the null hypothesis

is rejected.  There is a statistical significant relationship between these

two pages.  There was a statistical relationship between these two self

test pages Pre-Test and Rhythm Test; therefore, it could be concluded

that if one self test page is visited, the other one will be as well.  Because

of this, it might be suggested to add more self test pages, while maintaining

the rest of the content, and then retest the relationship to see if this allows

more visits to these particular pages.
